NOT too good to be true  
This product proved to be as effective as described. I couldnt believe how well it worked and how fast. Within 24 hours we were able to stop dousing ourselves with insect repellant and were just able to go outside in our wooded backyard and enjoy our patio trampoline and other outdoor living space. I also liked it because it gave us the opportunity to use a pet friendly solution to our mosquito problem. : 2010-09-15 05:02:40

READ before buying Springstar!  
A year after my previous review created a minor stir on the internet Im back to report what Ive learned. Ive learned so much that Im doing away with the old review but copying it to this reviews own "Comments" section for archival purposes.

Im now positive that the Springstar (non-)"trap" is obsolete.

First the results of my experiment with laying metal cans all over my property (tops cut off) partly filled with rainwater (to lure mosquitoes into laying) then dumping the water on a regular basis (no lures poison soap or anything but nasty rainwater and tin cans): unsuccessful due to me not finding a remaining area of stagnant water which ended up being a drainage tube beneath a road bordering my property. The roadworkers needed to dig down beneath the normal soil level to get the pipe in which left standing water in there and made the pipe easy to miss. No amount of "traps" elsewhere compensated for that neither Springstar "traps" nor my DIY knock-offs!

Very effective trap for flies  
We bought this product to control mosquito in the backyard. Within minutes of placing it on the homemade compost bin however the trap started to attract a large number of flies and within a few hours captured dozens of them. This was a nice surprise since the compost bin tends to attract flies. We have yet to catch any mosquito with the trap though.

Update: After about two weeks the trap caught many fruit flies and finally after three weeks succeeded in persuading mosquitoes to lay eggs in it. And yes the trap still is very effective in catching and drowning flies. : 2010-09-15 05:02:40
